Can you please tell me what kind of rock this is?

Found on freshwater lake in the fingerlakes in New York State. A cylinder like shape, about 2" tall. Curious to know more about it. Thanks!

It might be fossil wood. But a second opinion may be useful.

That's quite interesting with the outer and inner cores. The rounded appearance clearly is indicative of the water erosion. It looks like a fine-grained quartz, but it really can be anything, including something from further north brought down by glacial action.
