Is Serpentine safe to carve

+1 vote
I have been offered some Indian black Serpentine to carve ( the seller sometimes calls it Indian soap ). My question is would this be Chrysotile which contains asbestos or Antigorite which I understand is safe to work. Can anybody advise

Serpentine contains asbestos and it is not safe to work with or handle.

It really depends on the consistency. Columnar and thick serpentine is generally harmless. It's the fibrous chrysotile that poses health hazards. Find out from the seller what its consistency is.
