Could anyone identify this rock/mineral for me?

This was given to me by my grandmother. All I know about it is that she found it while hiking on a mountain in Norway (northern I believe) in the 1980s. I don't know which specific mountain though. I've weighed it and it weights 6.5 pounds. The multi-layers of the rock is what perplexes and intrigues me.

I am an amateur enthusiast, so my conjecture may not be correct. My first inclination is gneiss. Metamorphic rock, often has feldspar and quartz in a sample. Those white veins if they are quartz, would be very difficult to scratch with a nail, a pocketknife or a file of some sort as quartz is very hard.

If it were a limestone, or a sandstone it would easily scratch.
