Old sapphire jewelry?

0 votes

Hi, I bought this jewelry from a used school marked this weekend. It was dirty and it was not impressing. I washed it when I came home and was amazed. The color of the stone is sapphire blue (compared it to my sapphires), sometimes it switches to dark purple in artificial light. I do not think this happens outside. The jewelry itself is without any identification (not marked), but by the look I think it is silver (but it is to blank after just being cleaned) or white gold. I do not know anything about the history of this jewelry, it can be old and from northern Europe (Scandinavia). Is it a homemade jewelry?? Value? I have posted some pictures. Thanks! picture

The color is definitely indicative of sapphire. You can test via hardness by scratching the backside with a piece of quartz to see if it scratches. There are color-changing varieties of sapphire, as indicated on the minerals.net gemstone pages. Though it's hard to asses a value without seeing it - depends on the color, carat weight, clarity, origination, etc.
