My son found this in Unalaska, AK. It is a very light shade of purple. Amethyst?

So, the crystal seems very pure. If it is quartz, yes, if it is purple, it is probably amethyst. I have been to the largest amethyst mine in the world and the amethyst is purple, black, red and brown. It certainly looks like it to me. Amethyst is purple quartz.

Definitely has the appearance of quartz. Though the picture doesn't really indicate a purple color, which would define it as the amethyst variety of quartz.
