In context|mineralogy|lang=en terms the difference between cleavage and parting

is that cleavage is (mineralogy) the tendency of a crystal to split along specific planes while parting is (mineralogy) lamellar separation in a crystallized mineral, due to some other cause than cleavage, as to the presence of twinning lamellae.
