Natural crystals in matix - what can you do to make it appear wet?

+1 vote
Is there anything you can safely put on a natural cluster of crystals in matrix such as biotite, that will make the specimen appear wet so that crystals stand out?  I know they use oils and resins for the crystals themselves, but I wasn't sure when it's in a matrix if there was anything I could do that wouldn't harm the specimen.  Right now everything is dry and dull.

Would this be ok for beryl gemstones?  Also, I heard over time you have to reapply something like this and also remove old deposits which can leave a residue behind.  Is that a big deal?
