There are so many resources available to you. Universities have geologists, museums of natural history, rock and mineral clubs and shops, this site can help you as well. Post a photo of your favorite unknown or the most spectacular specimen and allow us to share in the start of your adventure. Books, Internet and other rock hounds are even easier. It is both intriguing and humbling. I have taken specimens to the Rock and mineral Museum in Houghton, Michigan and other samples to a geology center in a state park where a visiting professor from a local university identified my rocks for me after I listened in on his class.
