Would Corundum be considered a gem mineral or a metal ore mineral?

+1 vote
I have an Earth science project due on the 4th of November so I need answers ASAP.

One problem is to classify the minerals given into their correct group. There is a long list of minerals and Corundum is one. Then we have to list their chemical formula and then if it can be classified into the "Metal Ore Minerals" group we have to list the main metal extracted from the mineral.

The groups are Silicate Minerals, Non-Metallic Minerals, Metal Ore MInerals, and Gem Minerals.

Corundum contains aluminum which is a metal but Corundum is best known for its gem varieties.

Please Please Please help me!

Al2O3 is the formula, aluminum oxide. It is a rock forming mineral. Trace metals can be found. Iron, vanadium, chromium and titanium. Generally forms hexagonal crystals which are clear but take on colors when impurities are present: ruby (red) sapphire (any color but red). I would classify it as a gem mineral. You could find out the same information by typing the name of your mineral into google. I hope this helps.
