Say, is there any possibility you could give us some information...how hard is it? If you have a piece of quartz, Does it scratch the quartz or does the quartz scratch it? Many gem stones will scratch quartz which is very hard. For what it is worth, it looks like a diamond but the wear on the edges gives me pause.

Diamond would be unlikely due to its hexagonal shape (diamond is isometric) and as you said the wear is too much for an item as hard as diamond. But we'll definitely need some more properties to better ID this one.
