3ct round clear zircon from WW2 Africa

0 votes
My grandfather was a merchant marine post Ww2 and brought back an uncut zircon from africa(?). He had it cut an set in ny,ny in 1945.  It's 3ct round cut set in a 4 prong wg or platinum setting. I have worn the ring everyday dor 35 years.  I have always been a little afraid to take it to a jeweler for an appraisal.  Do you think it would have any value? Should I have it appraised?  It sparkles like a diamond.

Value chart for Zircon was 48 dollars to 227 dollars. Two rare colors were medium blue and purple higher end, clear was 58 dollars, those were 3 ct. Weight values in June 2015. It's worth more than the stone will bring as a gift from your grandfather. You're lucky to have it.
