strange formation found - what is it?

0 votes

Found a strange "bush like" formation about 5" tall in ancient sands along the east shore of the Sea of Cortez and am trying to figure out what is is and how it was formed. It is dedlicate, branched and has many "fern like" limbs and looks like it is created totally out of sand "glued" togeather

I think it may have been formed like desert roses are formed, but has totlly different "fern like" branches. We also found gypsum crystals nearby.

Could it be made of gypsum and sand? How do I test for Gypsum?

Can you post a picture? Gypsum is easily identifiable by its very low hardness and sectility, which means you can insert a knife into it.
