Slag or something else ?

0 votes

Hi everybody. I was in a nature reserve when I spotted some interesting shiny stuff. I'm in the Netherlands, most stuff you find here has been brought in from elsewhere to pave paths with or is rubble from building sites or slag from melting ovens. Still I wonder. In the same few square feet I found some obsidian and flint, not your usual building rubble.

The first picture is a black rock with tiny metal droplets all over it. They are not sprinkled on, some are more in the rock and barely visible. Haven't tried any tests on it.

The second shot is a small nugget I found just inches from the first item. It is quite bubbly. I tried checking the hardness and it ranked as a 6.5 from what I tried on it. It is only slightly magnetic, a magnet would make it move slightly but won't pull it.

So, you figure it's just slag or something else ?

Hard to tell what the first one is, but the second one definitely does look like slag.
