Another question: For instance, someone showed me a mineral or a rock, how would I know its name??? What properties would I consider???

This takes lots of practice and experience. Well-established collectors can often visually identify colors and habits and be able to identify a mineral. My advice is to read some books, study mineral, and visit museums and rock shows and eventually you'll get the hang of it...
