Amateur, just starting out.
Looks like either waterworn sandstone or jasper. The hardness should be able to make that distinction.
Is there a meter to buy for hardness?
Dear Weasel, it is really easy to test the hardness of a rock.
All you need is a (empty) glass bottle or a piece of window glass:
But I'm thinking it is a jasper.

Cant see it well enough, it might be jasper.

I had a good look again at the picture; rough jasper does not have little holes.
