Multi coloured rock???

0 votes

When beach combing in south Pembrokeshire, Wales, I found a very peculiar rock. It has multiple colours on one side, and it looks as if it is on the inside and that it has been broken in two. Have a look a the pictures below and tell me what you think.alt text

Thats a nice piece to find on a beach! It looks too grainy in texture and too opaque to be agate, but is still probably some sort or chalcedony. It has a conchoidal fracture which is one sign in that direction. Any way to test the hadnress? Will it scratch a piece of quartz?

It does scratch quartz and generates a burning smell when scratched.
