Is this a meteorite?

0 votes

Hello all, I’ve found a strange rough rock in the middle of nowhere just right inside a little pool of water that has been dried out. The rock looks very fresh like it hit right inside the sand where the small amount of water was laying. Some parts are shiny like the usual melted crust. When dry it’s like a black rock with little white dots on the very rough surface. It’s extremely magnetic and doesn’t fit any of my previous rocks I’ve thought about being a meteorite. But this one passed the magnet test and ima comparison test from internet images very very well.

Just wondering what you guys think: is it a meteorite; yes or no?

Can you take a picture of the crescent shaped divot in good light and post it here? In my opinion this is slag. Metal waste product from manufacturing. Highly magnetic. I would like nothing better than to be wrong.

I’ve added two more pictures of the rock, in this case I did not pour water over it so that the grey dots are more visible. Also the melted layer is visible now since it’s dry. When completely wet, it’s black and only the white on the top stays visible.

I would say yes, but I have no exp. with meteorites. Based on the way you described it though, it does sound like a valid claim.
