Could someone help with Identification?

I found this stone in the Carolinas. at a river not sure what it is, at first I thought maybe corundum but not sure. it has a shimmer to it when light reflects off stone when stone is turned in hand. I tried a uv light to see if it might be ruby but it did not confirm it .

Corundum is very hard, diamond will scratch it. Nothing else. If you have a file and you cannot scratch your specimen, then that is possible.

Just a few more questions. Are all three of these pictures the same rock?

If they are, the difference in color of the two opposing sides may be from minerals from the area which have stained it.

If that darker color rock was corundum, i do not believe that shelf would be cut into it in the second picture.

Thank you for your comment on this mineral. I believe I have identified the mineral you are right about the second pic not being corundum. My belief is Cats Eye Chrysoberyl. I have found some small facet grade ones near by. Oh! by the way they are all three pics the same stone.
Chrysoberyl is extremely rare. Try to see if there is any degree of translucency. What color is the crystal when you backlight the crystal?

To start, run through these four questions: Is it magnetic? What minerals are common in the area you found it? What is its streak? (run it across an un-glazed ceramic) and are there any strange other traits that it has? (such as fluorescence or strange weight) These can help you narrow it down to a couple of web searches, and it can help us help you!
