It appears to be black , very black. When I break apiece off I can see through it and it is a amber color. Meaning red brownish clear. Or transparent .  It is almost 4 lbs stone.

Bev, please post pictures, broken piece, back lit whole thing, My guess is obsidian but that is without seeing it. If yoou click the edit button, the box you posted in will pop up.your dialogue will still be there(essentially your original post). There are two tool bars appearing above the box. The bottom tool bar has seven boxes. The sixth box has four icons, the first one has a silhouette of a sun and two mountains. Click on that button and the drop down will give you three options to upload photos into your post. Follow the prompts' send to server and clck ok.

How can I upload a picture of the stone?
Hey. Bev! When you are posting a question, click on the image button, which is slightly to the right of the center of the editing tools. It will ask you to upload an image, and the rest is pretty straight forward. I agree with weasel, obsidian is very likely, but uploading a picture will help make sure, plus you will know how to do so in case you ever need help again. Good luck!
