What is this growth on this rock?

Found this in the shallow end of a freshwater lake in BC. What is the white honeycomb/barnacle growth on it?

I would say fossilized coral. That is my best guess.

Very possibly something fossilized like @Weasel's assertion, or perhaps a calcite/aragonite growth or pseudomorph. Any way you can post a closer image?

Yes I will post more when I get home. It is really strange considering I found it maybe a foot deep in the water just lying there. There wasn't any other rocks like it nearby. I wasn't even rock hounding at the time, just going on a hike. Super strange...
