Can onyx or obsidian be used as the outside rim of a watches timepiece?

0 votes
I'm trying to design a custom watch, and am thinking to make the outside part of the timepiece be either onyx or obsidian. I can't find any examples of either being used in this way. Do they just scratch easily? Crack? Shatter? The watch would likely just be for basic everyday use.

Obsidian was used as tools and is incredibly strong. Volcanic glass. Onyx is a gem stone and very hard.
