Leona, this is not a question I think anyone can answer. Amethyst is purple quartz. Quattz is silica which chemically is SiO2. Great pressure and temperature gradients are required. Certain proportions of iron are needed to color the amethyst and certain parameters of heat will make it darker or lighter. It can be white, purple, brown, red and almost black. I have been to the worlds largest amethyst mine where I have seen slabs that would fit in a pick-up truck bed. It is in Canada.
