Detroit Agate

0 votes

I recently found what was suggested to be a form of Agate on Ebay. Extremely colorful, almost too good to be true. It was called "Fordite", Motor Agate and Detroit Agate. However, I have not been able to find it in any book or the online resources at my disposal. I even searched the Minerals.net web site and NO Match found. Is it a synthetic man made thing? Has anyone ever heard of it or worked with it?
Would love to think it was a real Agate but it seems too good to be possible.....it wasn't cheap either.

Found the answer !!! It is in fact not a mineral or gemstone at all. It is Paint from the Ford Car Plant, built up over years, mostly lacquer. Sorry to waste your time on this one, I just had no idea.... and only saw pictures. It is expensive believe it or not. Even more expensive than many gemstones and agates!

I have heard of these but never seen one. Can you post a picture so everyone can see what this material looks like?
