I wish to buy a large piece of labradorite. How do I know I am paying a reasonable price?

Ask a mineral store what they would pay for it. That will give you an idea what wholesale cost is. If you know the dimensions, the weight  and have a picture, you should be able to get an idea of wholesale value.  Searching the mineral on the net will give you a general idea how much retail is and you can determine whether or not you are getting what you pay for. Talking to people in a rock/ mineral club would be a great way to learn.
