These are a cross section of what is tripping me up. In one book they are identified as 1 type, in another a different. Are there specific characteristics that I am missing?

Thank you for any help you may be able to provide to point me on my way!

Thank you so much- I have a starting point to get to the right types- agate, quartz etc. I can't believe you can identify from pictures like that! The 1st one blows me away- I would have never suspected amethyst- purple quartz- I have it down as Mahogany Obsidian (with a ? after it) Looks like I need to re-evaluate all that I "think" I have identified. Okay by me. What I thought of as a chore is turning out to be puzzle to be solved-or resolved. These are exactly what I needed as a benchmark! Also in the process, I have found that taking pictures of the minerals give a much clearer view of color and characteristics!

Thank you so very, very much!
