Looks like a rock. I need a picture with better resolution to help you. Our guys are real good if you give them something with which to work, like I found this on the shore of Lake Superior near Duluth, Minnesota. There are a lot of black rocks there. Some yellow staining in Lake Superior area rocks is limonite, black rock itself could be basalt, really anything. Tell us everything you know, is it magnetic, how hard is it. Can you scratch it with your nail, a pocketknife or a rock of known hardness like quartz. Where is it from? Looking forward to it...
