Emerald and aquamarine stone

0 votes

I have a question that I hope you can answer. My husband and I were in a local jewelry store. They had a gemstone that they said was a mixture of emerald and aquamarine. It was mostly green with a hint of blue in it. He said it was very rare and it was only the second stone like this they have had. I think he called it and "Aquald". I was researching it and can find nothing. Can you tell me if this naturally occurs or is it possibly made made. According to what I read on your site, it seems plausible since they come from the same 'rock'. Thank you Becky Maloy

Yes,I highgrade one gem that was blue on one side and green on the other. The finest emeralds have that rare hint of blue fire.

Emerald and aquamarine are both the same mineral. The only thing that distinguished them is their color. So a hybrid color is possible, though less common. Its usually called "Green Beryl". Its value will really depend on its aesthetics, but it won't be worth as much as a nice emerald. And the name "Aquald" is just a marketing ploy of his - it's a made up name that he is using to try to make it more exotic. Is there any way you can get him to give you a picture and post it?

Thank you for replying to my question.

I am not sure if he would let get a picture. Probably not. It is a necklace. oval shaped approximately 1/2 caret maybe a 1/3. it had small diamonds around it. He was asking $2500.00 for it.

Oh it was a deep green with a blue undertone
