Green Aquamarine

0 votes

I purchase a ring with a large green stone. It was sold as an aquamarine. When I got the ring, it looks more like a green amethyst (prasolite?). Do aquamarines come in that shade of green? Is that worth color worth less than the bluer stones? Thank you!

Aquamarine in the jewelry trade is a distinct, sky blue color with an occasional tint of green. Aquamarine is a variety of beryl, and describes the "aqua" blue to greenish-blue color. If a beryl is green, than its emerald. And if its a light green color, it is sometimes known as "Green Beryl", and these stones are often heat-treated to produce blue aquamarine. I hope this information helps.
