UNKNOWN MINERAL / CRYSTAL

0 votes

Hi all , i need help identifying what i bought at this garage sale / yard sale. Its round and is cut in half .. on the outter layer its orange color and the core of it looks like it has small holes in it . on the inside of it , it looks very close to what an AGATE looks like. Dark brownish striations and in the centre its yellow with crystals...

Please help. I looked through many books and i still cant find it... Hardness would be fairly hard 6-7 but being orange on the outside with smallish holes all around its core and AGATE like on the inside i cannot even start thinking what it may be. PLEASE let me know , can email me on ipvidual@yahoo.com.au or reply on here pls. THANKS A TONNE/ Eugene

The reddish mineral is in agate geode, with agate on the outside and drusy quartz in the center. Since its red it can technically also qualify as carnelian. The second light green/brown crystal looks calcite. See if you can test its hardness. Or try putting acid on it and see if it bubbles.

No, they are not expensive. As far as agates go, yours is a nice color though.

thx a lot for that . i thougght i give it to my Dad as a present ;) since AGATE is his stone . I still cant figure what this greenish one is , and I also have ROSE QUARTZ>>>> ? and thin round cutting of an agate . I feel like I should have bought all the crystals that were available at this yard/garage sale . As when you find them in places like shops or needing to buy them specifically price is significantly higher ... I missed out , what can I say ;( anyhow im happy for the 4 that I bought .

The pale green one could be Flourite. Although Flourite is usually cubic in shape. It certainly is a strange looking crystal.
