Larimar, is it real?

0 votes

I purchased quite a few pieces of Larimar at a gem show recently and now that I'm studying it I'm wondering if it is real. The seller is reliable so I wasn't worried about it at the time, but he sells many different minerals and may not know about the Larimar. The Larimar I purchased has the beautiful Larimar colors but it seems really soft and sort of plastic looking. It's smooth but not shiny like other polished Larimar I have and it's in thinish (1/4" or so) slices. The parts that are cut are not chalky but they remind me of that, if that makes any sense!

See if you can post a picture so we can take a look. The natural patterns of larimar are hard to imitate. Also see if you can do a hardness test to determine if it has the same hardness as pectolite.
